This week's Wednesday make and take is from BO-BUNNY’s, Back to Backs reversible
heavy weight paper – Rosy Line. I used the Vicki B; Loverly, Stripe, Perky, and Florilicious papers along with a few sheets of dark brown Bazzill. I am ready for spring so I wanted something that shouted spring is in the air and
this paper was perfect for that with its bright bold colors. I love layers and matting my photos, as evidenced by this make and take. Stop by the store and make the layout, it comes with step by step directions your gonna love your results!

Out of Winter Photos?

Since we've had such a mild winter (YEAH!), you may not have many winter scenes to scrap. But you don't have to use the Winter Twig papers just for snow photos!

I  scrapped four photos of my daughter who had just lost another tooth right after Christmas. My photos aren't snowy, but the story took place in December - and everything fits.

Extra Photos for 2-Page Layouts

This layout is a bit out of order but the point is the creation of a two page layout. I find those to be the hardest most days especially when you have a ton of photos from a particular memory. For those occasions, I find it best to use the multi-photo sleeves such as those by We R. ScrapbooksPlus has them - just ask if you cant find them. They make preserving ALL of your treasured memories so much easier and less stressful.

Making Pinwheels

I really love the look of pinwheels and they are so easy to make.  They can be multidimensional or flat.  The three pinwheel-layers can be three different papers or all the same paper.   It is all up to you.  Here’s how you make the pinwheels.

Cut 2 circles of three different sizes.   Cut each circle in half.   If you are making them flat against the paper, simply affix the largest four half circles to the paper in a circular pattern with all the flat edges facing the same way.  You will probably want to overlap them in the center a bit.  Repeat with each successive smaller circle, gluing them so blades of pinwheels do not totally cover the layer below.  On top of the top circle, add something to cover up the area where blades come together.  I like using a small paper circle and then an ornament – a brad, a button, or some fun object.  For this box, I used Elements White Buttons, which I threaded and tied a knot before affixing.  For Easter, some with eggs or bunnies in the center would be cute.  The possibilities are almost endless.

Now it is only slightly more complicated to make the pin wheels multi-dimensional.  Instead of gluing pinwheel blades to the paper, glue them to a circle (sized so that the next layer completely covers it).  Put another circle on top.  Do the same with the other layers.  Add a pop dot to the bottom and between each layer.

To decorate mine a little more, I embossed the edges.  I “inked” the round edges with VersaMark.  This is the same technique that you use when inking an object so it isn’t even.  Then I embossed with a transparent glittery embossing powder.

To make the box, you simply cut and score a 12” piece of paper into  9 even squares.  The center square is scored and the lines that go from outside to center square are alternated scoring and cutting.   (If you’ve not done this before, the instructions with a diagram are in the 12/30/11 blog.)  Glue the sides of the box together.  I used the Bazzill pre-cut edges to decorate the top. You’ll need two packages, but you’ll have lots left over for other projects.  These come in lots of colors.  A ribbon, which is also available at Scrapbooks Plus, goes around the center.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Using the great new line from My Mind’s Eye, this week’s Make & Take provides you a way to tell about “A Few of Your Favorite” things with pictures.  In fact, the layout has space for 8  pictures, one  large and 7 smaller ones.  Each of the 7 smaller spaces could either be pictures or journaling.  In either case, this page fits with the current scrapbooking trend of showing what our life is like, rather than just scrapping special events.  Because it is your favorite things, you can use pictures from a variety of time frames.  For example, if you love baseball (and I do) you can use an old picture (in my case one from the 70s) while using a picture of your granddaughter from today.  Whether you are telling about your favorite things through pictures, writing or both, you’ll want to get to Scrapbooks Plus and make this two-page layout using the charming new line from My Mind’s Eye called “Follow Your Heart – Be Happy.”  As always with My Mind’s Eye the line has fabulous buttons, brads, and chipboards!  If you like more bling, ScrapbooksPlus also has rhinestones from this line.

Snowman Picture Frame

This month’s Design Team paper was perfect to use with this picture of my sister’s grandchildren. I found a frame and added paper and embellishments to make this gift for my sister. I painted the frame white then covered the front with Frosty Diamond Dust Paper and some Chipboard words. I cut out the snowman out of chipboard and sticky back canvas. I painted the hat, scarf and face with copic markers. The Copic markers spread a little on the canvas helping to give it that distressed look. I used Tim Holtz plastic tags and a winter token. The plastic tags were colored with Alcohol Inks. The white tag was stamped and coated with glossy accents. I placed a snowflake cut from a piece of ribbon on the inked side of the blue tag than covered them with foil.

Remembering Last Winter

At this point, I'm really happy that I'm scrapping about large amounts of snow instead of dealing with the real thing! I decided to pull out one of the photos I took last year during what we called "Snowmagedon" and talk about how quiet everything gets when the snow's covering the ground.

The patterns in this layout were quite busy, so I kept the embellishments simple. I decided to add a bit of green Lily Bee paper as an accent to the greens in the Little Yellow Bicycle paper.  Then, just the title, journaling spot, and layered snowflake die cut tied together by a My Mind's Eye ruler border strip.

Make it Extraordinary!

Have you ever looked at ordinary things and thought how boring- I can fix that!?  Of course you can!  Here's how I mad a simple spiral notebook a lot more exciting...
Grab a binder clip and clip all your pages together to make life easier later, leaving your back and front covers out of the binder clip.  Take pliers and unbend one end of the metal spiral so you can easily spool it out of the holes.  Set it aside.  Then measure your covers (I covered the back too but you wouldn't have to), cut and adhere your paper and decorate the front.  I chose to add some vintage lace and the paper border that coordinates and is available with this month's LYB papers as well as a few coordinating premade embellishments.  I used my Crop-a-dile to punch the holes at the top so my spiral could go back through.  I also added a closure for the bottom of my notebook using a small circle of chipboard (about 1/2 the size of my embellishment that you see (also from the matching LYB premade embellishments).  I punched through the center of both and added a brad.  I attached twine to the back cover and just wound it around my circle closure.  I reassembled my notebook by spooling my spiral back through the top and re-bending the end to secure it.  I tied pieces of my vintage lace and a coordinating color ribbon to the spiral.  I also made a matching RSVP pen.  This is really easy because the top screws off and the matching paper is inserted by rolling it and inserting in the space around the ink.  Of course I finished the pen with matching ribbon and vintage lace!

Now my notepad and pen are nothing ordinary-- they are extraordinary!

Winter Memories

Little Yellow Bicycle “Winter Twig” papers looked great on this little journal. This book is so
simple to create. I used chipboard and
covered each piece with “Winter Twig” papers, using the “Snowy Window” for the
front and back covers. For the inside pages
I used other pieces of the collection: “Ski Sweater”, “Brown Snowy Scratch”,
“Winter Strip”, “Frosty Diamond”, and “Winter Blue”. I sanded the pages for a slight distressed
looked. The Cinch by Memory Keepers was
perfect for binding the book: I punched the holes in the spine side of the book
and then threaded the “Cinch" coil through the pages. I added Little Yellow Bicycle embellishments:
snowflake buttons, labels, chipboards, tags and snowflakes throughout the book
pages. I punched holes on a few pages
(right side) and threaded ribbon and “Winter Twig” confetti through for an
added altered look. To finish off the
book I added a few different ribbons to the coil, tied them off cut and
continued till I got a fairly full look on the spine. As the final step I edge the pages with “Tim
Holtz” Distress Tumbled Glass ink.

A Snowy Day

With all the pine trees in Heidelberg, the Winter Woods (front side) paper made the perfect background.  An inner background of Snowy Window added the snow theme.  I made large photo mat the goes across both pages out of Winter Blue (back).  The left side is 7 ¾” x 9 1/8”  & and the right is  7 ¾” x 10 5/8.

 I picked out a variety of pictures that demonstrated the major activities/attractions.  I used  four  3 ½ x 5 (one vertical and the others horizontal), a  3 ½” square and a 2 x 3 ½” and arranged them in a grid on the photo mat..  I filled the space in between the pictures with pieces of Winter Woods paper.
Since the paper had pieces of lace printed in a variety of places, I affixed lace on top of them to add dimension.  I added one long strip of turquoise ribbon near the bottom of the page from the right edge.  (The Winter Woods paper had lace here so I started here and went across the paper.)  Then I added lace on top of the ribbon.

I made a title using the Little Yellow Bicycle Chipboard Alphas.  I found them to be a little too bright for my layout so I randomly rubbed some claudine helumuth blank canvas acrylic paint across them.  After this dried, I painted them with Chandalier Glimmer Glam.  (If you don’t have this, you really should get it.  It is perfect for adding a little shimmer to anything.)  I used the “Magic” and “Winter Memories” from the Chipboard Words.  I used the same technique as on the title on these words.  I used two Cardstock Stickers to add sayings to pages. I painted these with the Chandalier Glimmer Glam as well.

Because I had so much I wanted to say, I decided to print my journaling on the Little Yellow Bicycling Journaling Cards.  To do this, using Microsoft Word, I created a text box that was the size of the journaling card with a line around the outside of the text box.  I typed my journaling and printed it on regular typing  paper.  I checked out how it fit on journaling card.  When it didn’t line up exactly as I wanted, I simply adjusted the printing.  Once I had the journaling exactly right, I affixed the journaling card to the typing paper using permanent adhesive lining it up with the lines around the text box.  On the computer, I removed the text box lines, but left everything else exactly the same and printed.  It printed exactly where the journaling card was.  It sounds complicated but really just takes a little playing with the printing to get it right.  I didn’t mess up a single journaling card!

The final embellishments were three of the Snowflake Button Dots.

Embellishments made easy

I hope you've had a chance to pick up your Little Yellow Bicycle papers and embellishments this month at Scrapbooks Plus.  Winter Twig is such a great line!  I blogged about using the premade embellishments that were available with this kit on Feb. 5th.  I used a combination of premade and punched embellishments on this layout.  I love the accordian folds for flowers but used them here in layers to add a border that has subtle texture with the scoring and zigzag edges.  I highlighted them by adding a Martha Stewart snowflake border punch and popped up Glimmer Misted Snowflake punches (also Martha Stewart) across the layout.  This photo was during the blizzard we had in February 2010.  I hope we aren't in for that again this year!
Below is a close up of the border.  Stop in today to get your Winter Twig!

Let it snow...

No seriously. LET IT SNOW!!

I am so bummed that we haven't had a fun snow yet this year.

I guess the next best thing would have to be scrapping about last year's fun snow day.

I took these photos of my daughter last year on one of our snow days.

At first she was a little disappointed that she didn't have school but she got over it in a hurry when she started playing with the kids in the neighborhood.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For this project I wanted to use a circle LO so that I could have my Title/ Journaling block hang off of the page but still fit in the page protector.
This layout came together so quickly. Mostly because Little Yellow Bicycle did such a great job with the embellishments {as usual!} I did add a little bling and a few button snowflakes that Lisa added to our kits but everything else is LYB.
My base for my title/ journaling block was one of the Decorative Edge Cardstock pieces. These have great texture.
Then I added some Cardstock Stickers, Chipboard Words and a Journaling Card and I was done. Easy as that!
Yeah, Its Snowing!!
One of my favorite pictures and I figured for those of us REALLY missing snow, it would be nice to see some. This was a photo from last year and the fun we had playing while it was snowing.
The Winter Twig collection by Little Yellow Bicycle goes well with our winter pictures!
Hopefully you will take some inspiration from these winter layouts. While we are desperately waiting for some snow, lets get some of our photos in layouts and then scrapbooks... while we have the time!
A Snowy Valentine's Day Card
I really wanted to make a Valentine’s Day card this month but when I saw the papers with blues, greens and browns, it appeared that this was not going to work.  Then I saw one of the Cardstock Stickers in the set  said “I’d Melt for You.”  Presto I had a Valentine’s Day card idea.
To make the card, just like I did you cut out two  6 ¼” x 4 ½” pieces of cardstock, score and glue them together so you have the Winter Plaid on the outside and the Snowy Aspen on the inside for writing.  Look carefully before you cut as there are some nice white designs on the plaid that you may want to place on the edge of your card.  Cut a 6 ¼” x 2 ¼” strip of Skate Scratch and put a small a strip of Brown Snowy Scratch cut with a scallop punch on each side.  Affix to the center of the card.
Stamp a snowman on the Snowy Aspen paper with VersaMark.  I used the Basic Grey Snowman but any stamp would work.   Emboss with Chestnut Zing Embossing Powder and cut out.  Make a hat using the same technique.  Stamp three little hearts with VersaMark and emboss with Barn Door Embossing Powder.   Paint the snowman with Chandalier Glimmer Glam.    (You could also use small heart buttons or cut small hearts from a pretty paper. If you are affixing something to the snowman, paint with Glimmer Glam and then affix objects.)  Draw a face on the snowman with a pen.  Fastened the snowman to the right side of the card with pop dots.  Glue three chocolate hearts in red and silver foil to the left side using Glossy Accents.
Paint the Cardstock Sticker that says “I’d Melt for You” with Chandalier Glimmer Glam.  Stick the sticker on a piece of Brown Snowy Scratch and cut around the edge leaving a small border.  To make the card a little more Valentiney, make the word “Melt” red.  I used Claudine Hellumuth’s dash of red acrylic paint.  The tip on the bottle is so tiny that I was able to fill in the tiny word directly from the bottle.   Affix the Cardstock Sticker to the card.
Stamp your Valentine’s message inside the card.
Snow Days
How crazy is this 60-70 degree weather we've been having lately!?  What happened to Winter?  Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining because I love the cold weather but I do love snowflake designs of all kinds and this Little Yellow Bicycle Winter Twigs paper is just perfect for wintery, snowy days!  I was able to make good use of this beautiful paper and fit 9 photos on a two page spread of my children during our brief October 29th snow storm.  Do you remember that?-- yes, snow for Halloween!  Crazy, crazy weather I tell ya!
When you pick up this paper at Scrapbooks Plus, but sure and grab a few of the matching embellishments.  LYB has some great embellishments that you can use as is or bling up a bit if you so choose.  I've used them on all my Design Team projects this month.  I'll show you more later in the month but this layout came together so quickly because of these pre-made embellishments!
Here's a close up so you can see the fun embellishments!  The accordian flowers are already precut and prescored-- super easy- and give such great dimension to your projects.
I added another fun element to my layout with the premade embellishments- I stitched lines down from the top of my layout at various lengths placing a snowflake at the bottom to symbolize fallling snow.  I used my sewing machine but this could easily be hand stitched. As you can see this paper really inspired me to be creative with my layout.  I hope it will inspire you to do the same!
The Cabin
Winter Twig by My Little Yellow Bicycle is wonderful paper. It has the blues and browns that I love. I cut the Winter Pom Pom paper with my Cricut Elegant Edges cartridge. The title was given a snowy look with sparsely applied white embossing powder. I used the Tim Holtz Pine Tree die to cut the chipboard trees. The trees were than painted and embossed. I love the accordion snowflakes that come with this kit, they can add so much to your page!
Winter Layout
I started with this month's kit by Little Yellow Bicycle and mixed in some pink accents from October Afternoon and My Mind's Eye to match my daughter's pink jacket.
When you're mixing colors, the general rule is gallon - quart - pint. Your main color is the gallon; here, the neutrals. I'm counting both the brown and white.
The second color should be less -- the quart. In this layout, it's the blue. There's blue in the bottom paper, the title and the banners.
And accent colors, the pint, are even less - pink,  in my case. Apart from the photos, I have three small groups of pink in the rose, the heart and flower in the title and the small tag in the right corner.
Gallon, quart, pint.
