Old Pictures + New Mind's Eye Paper = Family Memories

The newest My Mind’s Eye Lost & Found Ruby line is perfect for old photos so I used it to create a two-page layout of black and white photos from 1955.  They feature me with every member of my family that existed in 1955 except my Dad, who I believe was in the Air Force in Morroco and my two uncles.

I used the Paper Lace paper to provide my background.  To use the design of the paper that I loved , which was on the paper’s right and left edges, I simply used the edges of the paper and put a different paper for the center of the layout.  And just like that I had the same design as the initial paper, but as a two-page layout rather than a one-page one.

I added gray paper from the line, which is a solid color but textured to make a photo mat.  To add glitz and focus to the layout I added some embellishments.  I started with three of the layered stickers, which had glitter and the one that said “Happy Days are Here” seemed appropriate for pictures of people wearing party hats.  The layered doily wasn’t quite large enough so I added a red doily sticker underneath.  To add a little glitz to another layered sticker, I added red rhinestones.    I used the little pennants from the chipboard set across the bottom.  I added a few more up the right side.  Finally, I added a crown and mirror I created with a Spellbinder set that has stamps to match.  And to tie in, I added the red rhinestones I had used on the layered sticker to the crown.

This line has so many items you can use it for almost any type of layouts.   To see how you can personalize your layouts very easily with the many coordinating items offered in this line.   added lots of embellishments.

Valentine's Day Cards

Valentine's Day Cards from BoBunny Love Letters
With Valentine’s Day nearly here, now is the time to get your Valentine’s Day cards made.  ScrapbooksPlus has some great papers for your projects.

I especially loved BoBunny’s Love Letters line.  It has pinks and turquoises and just makes you happy to look at.  For my Valentine’s Day card, I used the Airmail paper, which has stamps on one side that are ohh so cute and the Love Letters, which has fun stripes.  I made a standard-sized horizontal card with these two papers.  For the trim and a handmade envelope, I used BoBunny Island Mist Vintage.  This turquoise-mottled paper (with gold polka dots on one side) made an envelope that popped, especially when I added a little trim and hearts from Love Letters.  (If you haven't checked out this line of paper, I encourage you to do so.  Similar to the BoBunny dots, this paper comes in a variety of colors  -- all vintage and all with gold dots on one side -- that can be used with all kinds of paper.  I love the browns and blues.)

I also made a little matchbook using the same papers as the card.  I added a Valentine's Day message so it could serve as a unique card.

Stop by ScrapbooksPlus and check these out.  I am not sure that the picture does them justice.  While you’re there, you can get the supplies you need to make these.  You can also check out other Valentine's Day papers, such as Basic Grey's True Love, which includes little mini bottle caps!

ScrapbooksPlus will be offering a class to make these three items plus a Valentine’s Day exploding box.  Not only will you make these great items, but you’ll learn how to use a scoring board.  So whether you want to make t hese items or to learn how to use a scoring board, sign up now as space is limited by calling ScrapbooksPlus at 703.263.9503.  The class will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 from 10:30am – 2:30pm for a cost of $45.  I hope to see you there!

My Mind's Eye Lost&Found ~ Ruby

This month the ScrapbooksPlus design team features layouts, altered items, and cards created using the Lost&Found 3 ~ Ruby collection by {My Mind's Eye}

Lost&Found is always a fun collection but this Ruby line is just beautiful.  The doilies, honey combs, florals and stripes come together beautifully in layouts and projects.

The glitter accents and embossing are the icing on the cake and make these papers so rich.  And as if that weren’t enough the embellishments are amazing!  Even the sticker sheet is so fun.  I loved all of the different ways that the new design team used the word stickers saying sweet little things like “never forget these beautiful moments” and “remember today” on layouts and projects that are on the Wall at the store.

The doily and butterflies are such nice accents for cards and layouts either clustered or layered they really add a lot to a project.

The washi tapes are an easy way to add a little something to a design and although they are made to coordinate with this line they will be easy to mix and match with other collections.  The buttons, brads, enamel and adornments are all so lovely.  It is always so easy to pull together a stunning layout or projects with embellishments like these!  So stop by the store or take a peak at the website to check out the Wall and all of the inspiring projects from the new design team!

Exploding Box & Cards

Most people love to get handmade cards and gifts. I think it is especially nice for Valentine's Day.  On Saturday, February 9th Scrapbooks-Plus will offer a class in which you'll make four Valentine-themed items using a scoring board and BoBunny’s Love Letters line.

You’ll make an exploding box that would be a great Valentines gift for one of your loves – grandmother, mother, daugter, husband.  It looks like a box but when you open it up out pops all kinds of spaces that are decorated.  You can add messages and pictures specific to the receipient. You could even include a gift card in one of the pockets.  If you have a child away at school one of these with gift cards would be most welcome.

In addition, we’ll make a newly popular “matchbook,” which can serve the same purpose as a card, but is oh so cute.

A card and matching envelope will complete our projects.

Although these projects are great and reason enough to take a class, but the real purpose of making these is to learn about a scoring board.  After making these item, you can decide whether this is a tool you need in your papercrafting tool box.  Whatever you decide, you’ll have completed some projects, learned how to make some new items and had a fun afternoon.

This class is part of a series I'm teaching to share new tools and techniques so that we are continuing to expand our papercrafting skills.  I always feel that I make better decisions when I get to use somehting before I buy it and you'll definately gain that experience with this class.  And you'll have a lot of fun!

The class is on February 9, 2013  from 10:30am – 2:30pm with a cost of $45.   The items are on display at the store if you'd like to look at them up close.   To sign up stop by or call Scrapbooks Plus at
703-263-9503.   Space is limited.

Out of the box

OK... You're right.  This is not a snowy day layout.  I get that.  But with the new year, I am stepping out of my box and all themed collections do not have to follow the theme.  The greens and blues in this collection were perfect for this action shot.  What will you step out of the box with?

Snow Day Cards

Do you have LOTS of scraps laying around? I most certainly do. But not any more! One of my scrapbooking goals for 2013 is to use my scraps to make cards, tags, etc. I'm no longer just making piles of scrap paper and embellishments with the hope that I'll eventually find the time to create something out of them later. I find that I never have the the time or I have so many other new papers and embellishments that I would rather create with those instead. So, after I've completed as many cards, tags, etc. from my scraps, if I have anything leftover, I package it back up and make a decision: 1) keep and put it in my stash for future use; or 2) place it in my ScrapbooksPlus yard sale pile. By using my scraps and determining if I will use the remaining leftovers I can keep my scrapbook space tidy and paired down so I always have space for newer items. So, what can you make from your scraps? Take a peek....

Hello Snow...

I LOVE the yellow on yellow combination that can be done with this BoBunny collection!  Winter can be such a dark and dreary time of year for pictures.  To help brighten up the pictures, I like to use brightly colored Winter-themed papers.  Bobunny has done an excellent job with this line! The snowflake We R Memory Keepers Mini-Lucky 8 punch created the perfect compliment to this collection.  I also wanted my title to sparkle, much like snow does in sunlight, so I applied Glitter Ritz's Warm Highlight to "Be Creative's" double-sided sticky sheets.  I hope you are having a warm and cozy winter day!

Adorable

With help from my friend Susie Bentz, this layout came together nicely (in my humble opinion!).  I love the purples in this layout and although the purple in the picture is not an exact match, it helped me feel comfortable branching out of my box.  Have you ever had a picture where you had to find the exact paper match?  Well Im here it tell you, you can stick with the family of colors and not be exact.  Are you willing to step out of your comfort zone?

All Bundled Up

This is one of my favorite layouts of all time! What I appreciate most about BoBunny's Snow Day collection is the variety of colors offered in this line. From blue to purple, to pink and yellow this collection provides a color palette for every scrapbooker. I don't often get the chance to use purple, but I absolutely LOVE it for this winter layout! :)

Winter Wonderland Card

Im not a huge fan of doing cards.  I love pretty cards and love the finished product from others who are more creative than I am.  But I must say, I like my little card.  It doesnt have all the bells and whistles but I think its cute.  Isnt that what counts?  It melts my heart... :)

Another blast from the past -- since last year was so mild.

For this layout I used yellow as an accent color. I paired the yellow in the paper strips with old yellow Thickers and a few yellow snowflakes.  The yellow in the alphas is not exactly the same as the papers, but it still works.

Snow Buddies

I love the combination of the fun plum and bright blue colors in this collection by Bo Bunny.  It is very different from the typical snow paper lines, more grown up in a way, but still very fun to use on a layout for kids.

I used some alphas from Basic Grey and used some white paint on the top edge to mimic snow.  These alphas are a few years old.  Basic Grey does such a great job on their lettering that I often check out what they have with each release.  Even if I don't buy the line I often buy the lettering because I know I will use it at some point.

I love the chipboard embellishments in this collection!  These products made this layout so easy to pull together.

A Simple Snow Layout

With last year's mild winter, I had to go back a few years to find pictures of snow I hadn't scrapped!

Here's a simple layout for you -- an 8.5"x 11" cardstock background, with a slightly smaller piece of patterned paper on top, followed by two 4x6" photos stacked on top of each other.  Just a few small accents and you're done!

Displaying Travel Photos with BoBunny Snowy Day

The BoBunny Snowy Day line was designed and great for winter photos of all types and lots of the items include snowflakes, mittens and winter messages, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t great for other photos.  I loved the rich colors and was eager to use the papers, but I didn’t have winter photos of any type.  I did have lots of travel photos.  I decided that the blues, browns and golds would be perfect for a day in Briare, France, a lovely city on the Loire River.

BoBunny has a wonderful line of dots and solids that cooridinate well with specific lines.   I used  the Slate Dot and Plum Dot in this layout.  The solid side of the Plum Dots was perfect for my pictures.  For Trim on top and bottom, I used the Slate Dot and punched it.  The Snowy Day Stripes had colors that I loved and only a couple of stripes related to snow so I just used this paper as accents and didn’t use the “snow” lines.  Some of the tags were without snowy messages so I used these.  When taken out of the “snowy” situation, the snowflakes on brads and papers, look like designs or the sun.

As with many of my travel layouts, I was challenged as I had lots of pictures I wanted to use and quite frankly I thought journaling would take away from the beauty of the layout.  My solution – hidden journaling.   The tab on the left with a brad is actually the pull for a long piece of paper that contains the story of this day.  Result:  The memories are preserved and the beauty of the pictures isn't  marred by text.

As usual with BoBunny, this line has great chipboard, brads, buttons and jewels.  I couldn’t use them all in this layout, but I sure wanted to.  So if you ignored this month’s line because you didn’t think you had snow pictures, I encourage you to head to ScrapbooksPlus and check out these papers.

Let It Snow

Hi!! This is my first layout of 2013 (Happy New Year!) and I couldn't be more pleased with the way it turned out. The greens, blues and yellows in BoBunny's Snow Day collection totally complement the colors in my photo. Of course, I used lots of layers because I LOVE all of the wonderful Snow Day patterned papers, so I tried to use as many as I could. ;)

Snowy Day Layout

So I figure if we start creating snowy layouts, we'll start to get more snow!??  Yeah?  Maybe?  OK - well if you have snow pictures from snow days long ago, here is a sample layout to use for inspiration.  Its simple and doable.  I used one of my favorite accucut dies (snowflake) as an embellishment for this layout.  Be sure to stop by ScrapbooksPlus and use the diecut for your layouts!

Cuddling up with COCOA!

There is nothing better than cuddling up with your grandchild and a mug of Hot Cocoa on a cold winter day!  One of my favorite things about the BoBunny Snow Days line of papers is it's versatility!  I wanted this page to be bright and cheery to help reflect on the mood that this moment created.  I used an off-white card stock with the bright blue, green and yellow in this collection.  I love how different it looks!  Using my Cricut, I cut out a black cup and vellum steam. To make the steam look more dimensional, I use two layers of vellum and popped one piece up on the other using foam tape.  By adding Distressed Stickles, it made the steam curl and separate leaving it with a more realistic look!  I also wanted to include the recipe I used to make the coca, so I created a pocket and handmade recipe card using the collection and die cuts!  I had an absolute blast with this page!!  What are you making with the BoBunny Snow Days collection!?

Winter Wonderland Card

I chose to make a very simple Winter card using the BoBunny  Snow Day collection.  I felt this particular paper was elegant enough to be on the card alone.  All I did was add in some Distress Stickles (Picket Fence and Rock Candy) for highlighting purposes.  Be sure to stop by Scrapbooks Plus and have a look at all the January Design Team projects and choose your favorite papers and embellishments from the BoBunny Snow Days collection!

BoBunny Snowy Day Line

The Design Team used BoBunny’s Snowy Day line to create its January projects.  As the name conveys, the papers, journaling blocks, tags and embellishements have a snow theme.  Lots of snowflakes, mittens and snow sayings, such as "let it snow."   Typical of BoBunny, the line includes brads, cute buttons,  jewels, die cuts and chipboard shapes.

The rich hues of blues,  browns, plums and golds provide great backgrounds for winter pictures. The Design Team added some of the BoBunny cooridinating solid papers with dots on the reverse side.  Slate Dots, Plum Dots and Curry Dots papers go especially well with the Snowy Day line

Although the papers are perfect for snow pictures, the color combination is great for other pictures as well.  As an example of the versatility,  I made two layouts of travel pictures, without any snow in them.  Many of the prints work for a variety of pictures.

I can’t wait to see what the Design Team has made with this versatile line.  You can check out the Design Team’s projects at ScrapbooksPlus.  Feel free to take pictures of those that give you ideas for your layouts.  While you're there you can pick up the supplies you’ll need to make some great layouts. Or you can sign up for one of January's crops and usethe Design Team Wall for ideas create your own layouts.
