January's Page Map Layout

I absolutely loved this month's design team kit by

Bo Bunny called Midnight Frost. It was so much fun to work with. We received lots of fun embellishments to use as well. I used my dog Lax's photo and our outside light pole from 2010's Blizzard. I love how he is looking out the front door. I sewed on some of the material border underneath the flourish bling. I used some of the word sticker embellishments that came with the kit. I also used Martha Stewart's icicle border punch to add a top border. I punched a few different size snow flakes out of glitter paper. I think it added some texture as well as make the page pop. Add some blue bling in the middle of all the snowflakes on the page and call it a day! Have fun.

Page Map - Let It Snow by Esther

This is my interpretation of the page map that Robin suggested for January. It made me scramble to find a single picture to use as alone to emphasis the blues in the Midnight Frost Collection by Bo Bunny. The blues were so pretty that they kept me calm while scrapping. I started with the blue dots with a 10" Midnight Frost Dot on the lighter side. Powder Blue Dot and Midnight Frost Ice were used as accents. Strips of others were used from this group. Layers of the same group make an easy job of coordinating the look.

The title was a stamp by Inkadinkado embossed with Ranger Antiquities Cobalt and Atlantis blue ink on white cardstock. Border punch unknown. The message was typed on photo paper and mounted a pearlized white cardstock. White was used to accent the monochromatic blues for this lay out. The base is a darker blue Bazzill 12" square (not shown in photo). Blue ink was used behind the white snowflake diecuts made on the Cricut. Large accents were used to balance the single photo.

Working With a Sketch

Sketches are wonderful things. They are a great jumping-off point, especially when you feel like your creativity took a new year's vacation.

Robin's page map this month was loaded with all sorts of layers. But I'm usually a more simple scrapper. So, I used some of her layers, simplified a few, and left out a couple to stay more true to my style.

It's a little hard to see from the scan, but behind the photo is a clear layer made with recycled packaging. I ran it through my cuttlebug using a Tim Holtz Texture Fade. The layer underneath the photo was simplified to a strand of baker's twine.

Book List

This month's DT kit chosen by Robin is the stunning Bo Bunny line-Midnight Frost (MF), with the beautiful variations of blues, greens & burgundy. It is amazingly versatile as you will see by my January layouts. I started with the back of the MF stripe paper which has french type writing on it-love it! This paper is the perfect background for a photo I had been planning to scrap for awhile.

My boys love to read & had the opportunity to meet Anthony Horowitz, one of their favorite authors at a book signing. I started by gluing strips of book paper down & GMisted with brick, olive vine, & autumn nights. THoltz's Lost & Found line was used for the rest of the layout. Stickers were used for the title & calendar block.

The alphabet strip & circle were cut from the paper as well as the clock. Using Tim's idea from his 12 tags of Christmas on his blog, I took a piece of acetate, ran it through a texture fade & cut it to overlay the clock. It was alcohol inked in terra cotta, stream & eggplant. I attached it with a brad & clock hand. Finally a word stick was attached & picture of the book. Take a closer look at this paper line. Yes there are beautiful snow pictures to be used but this line has other applications as well. Now that the holidays are over, take some time to scrapbook some of your favorite photos!

Color Craziness!

The weekend after Thanksgiving, we bundled ourselves up and went to the ice skating rink at the National Sculpture Garden. It was bitterly cold, and the line was longer than we hoped. After a lot of waiting... and some time in the car warming up... we finally got to skate. We took a few photos and hit the ice. Later, when I downloaded the pictures, I thought to myself... what am I going to do with these pictures? Our coats are olive, mint, and coral! Any good scrapbooker should plan in advance to avoid this, right? :) And we are all wearing hot pink skating stickers too! Yikes! I tried changing the photos to black and white... but they are dark pictures and without the bright coat colors, there's not much to look at. So, I decided to just embrace the colors and work with them as best I could.

The Bo Bunny Midnight Frost collection is mostly blues and whites, but there is some burgundy and green in some of the patterned papers as well. I chose a blue paper with a little green tinge to it to back my photos. I pulled out the die cut paper and sliced it in half to squish it together and border the matted photos.


For my embellishments, I added some of the beautiful, green pleated ribbon from Mays Road that I found at ScrapbooksPlus and some of the new Jolie's silver and white doily stickers. I pulled out some old American Craft chipboard shape thickers that I got in a grab bag a while ago. The shapes were a really bright, florescent pink... but not the pink I needed to match the ice skating tickets, of course... so I decided to run them through my Xyron and cover them. I covered a bird and a frame with scraps of patterned paper. I used the frame to hold one of our skating tickets and the other ticket I used to cover the hearts I scattered around the page. Once they are run through, I trim them down with my craft knife or scissors, and then I use some of my Basic Grey precision file set to finish off the edges. Another option is to use sandpaper or an emery board. It's a easy way to clean up the edge and sand it all in one step!

All Bundled Up

Happy New Year everyone!

I am so excited about this months kit and I think you will be very inspired by the project the Design Team made with it. I know we have done a lot of Bo Bunny this year but this time Bo Bunny out did themselves!

These papers were the perfect match to the photo I used in this layout. The dotted paper picks up the fun polka dots in my daughter's coat while the blue in my son's coat is picked up in all the blue in this collection.

The layout fell together quite easily since I used Robin's layout design.

The lettering is Dear Lizzy Thickers Glitter Letter Stickers. They worked really well with this snow themed page. Of coarse being Thickers the letter set comes with multiples of each letter. I know I'm going to get a lot more use out of them.

I even got to use my brand new Tim Holtz Alterations Winter Wonder die!!!

This little guy is too cute, lots of different ways you can use him. Now I just need to get my hands on the ginger bread man.

Happy New Year! January 2011 Design Team Kit

Happy New Year!  I am pleased to bring you "Midnight Frost" from Bo Bunny.  This beautiful collection of papers and embellishments is sure to bring warmth to your hearts.  I selected this collection because of its versatility and double sided papers. 

I also selected beautiful embellishments from the collection as well as wood snowflakes that can be painted and adorned. 

The sketch I created is easy, yet elegant. Be sure to pick up a copy in the design team area. 

For my sketch layout I used a photo of my beautiful dog Chance taking a winters nap.  I used a wooden snowflake from the kit and painted it white.  I immediately sprinkled silver glitter over the paint before it dried. Once dry, I adhered it to the large chipboard snowflake from the collection.  This is just one way you can embellish your page using the elements from the kit.

Scrapbooks Plus has an excellent selection of papers and embellishments located next to the Design Team Wall.  Stop by next time you come in and you will fall in love with this collection just as I did.
